Do you buy clothes yourselves?

Honestly guys, this might sound naive but my mother still wants to go to the shops with me, and never wants to let me go there alone. But, what odo I do if I live alone someday? I can't always run to mummy and tell her to come with me! I can't stand that, I wish I could choose my own things. What about you, do you "already" buy every clothes yourselves, or do your friends or parents or other relatives still go with you?

My sister and sometimes my mom goes with me to buy clothes because I hate clothes and shoes shopping! *smiles* My mom knows that I like certain materials, and I guess my sister's good at picking out clothes that make me look young and not older, although I know it must be frustrating for her since she and I have pretty different tastes from each other on the style of clothes we like waring. *smiles* But, I recently looked something up on what types of clothes to wear generally if you have a certain build and coloring. So, although I don't like shopping for clothes anyway, that's cool because it would help me to have an idea of what clothes I could buy. Usually, though, the clothes are handed down to me from some of my aunts; not sure if they exactly look stylish, but at least they're comfortable. *smiles*

For my job I always have to dress up professionaland in general I am pretty obsessed with looking very presentable and have a nice clothes selction. But I've long realized that I can't really deal with things like colors myself. I dohave materials that I like but things like colors, stripes vs no stripes which colors fit you, that's just something a sighted person will always know better than you. So I never go unless it's with my sister, my parents my girl friend (when I dated a sighted girl) or with friends, invariably female hehe because I trust girls' sense of dressing better than boys. It doesn't happen all that often that I need to go shoppping so generally I've always had someone there who doesn't mind helping me out with it. I try to be practical about it though e.g. buy all black socks so that I don't mix them up after doing laundry and end up looking stupid, buy all black patns too that go go with any shirt but then with shirts I try to get some sublte colors or patterns or stripes or something to make the dressing a little more lively and same with ties, but this way I can pretty much choose any outfit blindly and it'll fit and not look out of place.
cheers

Yeah, my mom buys me white socks and beige kneehigh stockings, but I will soon have to buy more since I found I like the thicker socks and don't have many pairs of the kneehighs. When I used to go to the summer programs at the school for the blind and then at the rehab place, my mom and sister would put together some clothes I could mix match easily along with some long dresses that looked nice. I could wash all of those clothes in cold water, so that was cool too. Although I do remember colors, I guess at the age where I could still recognize them (around 7 or 8), I don't think I really payed attention to styles or appearance. I guess the reason I don't like clothes shopping (although this is off topic *smiles*), is because of the whole thing of having to keep going and trying out the clothes.

Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of having my mom or sister going with me to buy clothes. I know what clothes look good on me, what colors, and what is or is not acceptable to wear in each situation. All the time, I go to stores that have customer service and I tell them what I want or need and they help me look for it. I haven't had any complaints about my style!!! heheheheeheh And I'm still my sexy self!!!! Hope this helps!!!

I prefer to shop for clothes alone, as Goth gear is just so tactile, its sheer indulgence but I'll sometimes let a a sighted friend tag along, just to make things easier and to worry them when I'm tempted to try and buy the more ridiculous clothes..

Well of course it can be beneficial sometimes to have your mum going with you, but, what if she does not even ask you what you like, just pick what she thinks I could wear? I don't want to depend on that, I need my own style.

That's taking advantage of your blindness and she should know better..Your Mum needs to realise you are more than capable of creating your own style..you need to discuss this with her 1-1 and make her see that she is out of order...
.......
You could also invite her out on a shopping trip and if she resorts to choosing for you, just turn your back and ignore her or walk away,it will take time Insele but she has to learn you no longer need to be treated like a child.

I usually go with one of my cousins or my friends. <smile> they know my style preference and so it's usually easy to find cute stuff I like.

I buy my own clothes. and I pick it out myself. I know my own style but I do need help walking around in store just in case I walk into a pole and send everything on the floor!!! *smile*

I agree with you on this point, Goblin. It's only that she doesn't accept it.

I think that it's not really safe for me to buy clothes for my self. LOL I don't want to get something completely gay so I have a friend go with me when I shop so my mom doesn't end up finding something stupid and getting it for me. It works pretty well for me and I always ware cute clothes to school

Lol! My mother still insist on buying my clothes, but I am trying to loose her. She likes to get me really young clothes, but I fancy more mature things.
